Rea på Remington
En quiet-riter stod där på återbruksaffären häromdagen och tittade tyst och bedjande
på oss kunder. Nedsatt från 50 till 15 kronor. Ingen vill längre ha en gammal skrivmaskin,
hur tyst den än skriver.
En gång i tiden, kanske i början av 1960-talet, var den åtråvärd,
gestaltade en dröm om författarskap. Var det en Remington reseskrivmaskin som farbror
Melker i Saltkråkan satt och hamrade på? Åh, jag var frestad att ta den med
mig hem, rädda den. Men jag vet ju - Quiet-Ritern skulle aldrig bli använd.

Ahhh.. the portable Remington. I still have one from my newspaper days in blue case. It does not however have the fancy large keys; mine are the round ones similarto those on the large Swedish upriught on the Swedish typewriter link you furenished. And how I could make those keys sing! I also had a 1928 Remington while at college and used it into the 1960s. Where I worked after the newspaper, I was furnished an IBM Selectric with a round ball that held the actual letters. But electric ones were never satisfactory in the news business populated by many writers who used a flailing motion to slam their fingers down on the keyboard. It was also hard for these same writers to get used to the easy moving keys of the computer. But everyone made the change for the most part although a few of the dinosaurs like my old bosses held onto their Remington uprights with its delightful keyboard.it would really sing.
